Malvern College Hong Kong (MCHK) held its grand opening ceremony on Monday, officially marking the commencement of the school’s first academic year in August 2018.
Officiating guests included Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Mr Andrew Heyn, British Consul General to Hong Kong and Macao; Mr Robin Black, Chairman of Malvern College Council; Ms Jacqueline So, Co-founder and Chief Executive of Malvern College International, Asia Pacific and Dr Robin Lister, Founding Headmaster of MCHK.
Mrs Carrie Lam previously officiated at the school’s foundation stone laying ceremony in 2016. In her speech at the school’s grand opening, the Chief Executive spoke of how the school is strengthening Hong Kong as an education hub: “I'm delighted to know that the school embraces whole-person development, including leadership training and critical thinking; that Malvern College's students benefit not only from a compelling emphasis on STEM subjects, including coding and robotics workshops, but also sports, art, community service, even a Forest School programme. Schools such as Malvern College Hong Kong expand our educational horizons and our imagination. They make our city even more attractive to global businesses. In doing so, they affirm our status as Asia's world city. I have no doubt that the school, its students and Hong Kong will excel deep into this 21st century of opportunity and boundless promises.” she said.
The school’s vision is to stretch the boundaries of a traditional education and to enable pupils to learn “without borders”. Ms Jacqueline So, Co-Founder and Chief Executive of Malvern College International, Asia-Pacific, explained: “As a member of Malvern College International, we will leverage the network provided by our schools to access valuable teaching resources around the world. We will also make use of technology as a vehicle to help our pupils expand their global exposure and through new initiatives such as “Malvern TV”, we will ensure our pupils to learn from professors of top-notch universities, various industry practitioners, and from staff at schools in UK, Mainland China and the Middle East. As one of the leading schools in the region, MCHK will spearhead these initiatives. Designed not only to capitalise on the extensive opportunities in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay area, they will also allow our pupils to develop a truly international perspective.”
Malvern College Hong Kong supports pupils to pursue academic excellence while preparing them to be responsible members of society capable of making a real difference in the world. Dr Robin Lister, Founding Headmaster, said: “We aim to provide our pupils with a complete set of tools they need to navigate a bright future ahead. Across all our academic, co-curricular and holistic educational efforts, Malvern College Hong Kong is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal to drive inclusive, equitable, quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”
