Malvern College, UK

Founded in 1865, Malvern College epitomises a classic English education. A safe space to take risks, Malvern College develops self-assured, grounded, and resilient young adults who have the skills to work with anyone, anywhere. The focus is not only on academics but on creating a place where pupils are encouraged, supported and nurtured.

As one of the UK’s leading independent schools, Malvern College offers GCSEs, followed by a choice between the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme and A levels in Sixth Form. Malvern College has been a forerunner in education, being among the first UK schools to adopt the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme as well as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Our strong educational heritage is underpinned by the pioneering introduction of innovative education practices such as the Nuffield approach to teaching Science.

Malvern College’s associated preparatory school, The Downs Malvern, is an award-winning independent Prep School for children aged 6 months to 13 years, nestled within the western slopes of the Malvern Hills. Pupils benefit from excellent teaching alongside superb extra-curricular, boarding and sports facilities.

The academic heritage of Malvern College and The Downs is unparalleled, reflecting a tradition of excellence and particular strength in STEM and Literature. We have produced four Nobel Prize Winners: Francis William Aston, Chemist; James Meade, Economist; Alan Hodgkin, neuroscientist; and Frederick Sanger, biochemist and a double Nobel Laureate. Other famous alumni (‘Old Malvernians’) include R. E. Foster, the only man to have captained England at both cricket and football; novelist C. S. Lewis, author of The Chronicles of Narnia; businessman Lord MacLaurin, a former Chairman of Tesco and Vodafone; Baron Weatherill, the former Speaker of the British House of Commons; and Sir Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England.
