Abigail Miles plays a key role in shaping both the academic and personal development of pupils at Malvern College Tokyo. As Pastoral Coordinator for Secondary and a teacher of Individuals and Societies and Wellbeing, she is dedicated to fostering a supportive and enriching school environment. Originally from Walsall in the West Midlands, Abigail has a background in Psychology, earning her degree in 2017 before completing her PGCE in Secondary Psychology in 2018. She began her teaching career in Birmingham, where she spent five years expanding her subject expertise to include Sociology, History, and Geography before joining Malvern College Tokyo in 2023.
For Abigail, Self-Awareness is the Malvern Quality that resonates most as she believes it is essential for personal growth, helping individuals reflect on their actions, manage challenges, and build meaningful relationships. One of her proudest achievements has been designing and leading the secondary school’s Wellbeing curriculum. Recognising the need to support pupils’ personal and social development alongside their academic studies, she introduced weekly lessons covering mental health, emotional intelligence, life skills, and current affairs. This initiative empowers pupils to develop resilience, self-understanding, and essential life skills beyond the classroom. Looking ahead, she is excited to see Malvern College Tokyo continue to grow, particularly with the introduction of the IB Diploma Programme. She is eager to support pupils as they take on new challenges and opportunities, ensuring they are well-prepared for both academic success and life beyond school.
